Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on what is inside it. Scans and PDFs full of photos usually shrink the most — often by 80 to 95% — because their images carry far more pixels than the printed page needs. A PDF that is mostly text is already small and may shrink very little. PdfForge shows you the real figure for your file before you save anything.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs on your own processor and the file never leaves your PC, so it works with no internet connection and is safe for confidential documents.
Will the text still be sharp?
Yes. Only images that are larger than their size on the page are resampled. Text and vector graphics are left untouched, so they stay sharp at any zoom level.
What is free and what needs Premium?
Analysing is free for a PDF of any length, so you can see exactly how much it would shrink. Saving the compressed file is free for documents up to 3 pages, once a day and three times a month. The one-time Premium upgrade removes every limit. There is no subscription and no watermark on free output.
Can I compress many PDFs at once?
Yes. The Batch tool applies the same compression to a set of PDFs and saves them all to one folder. On the free plan a batch takes two files within the page limit; Premium removes the limit.
