Find and remove the silent gaps in a video
Scan a recording for dead air and cut it out, on your own machine, with nothing uploaded. Scanning is free at any length; the removal pass is free up to 60 seconds of output.
Why do it in VideoForge?
A fast, private desktop toolkit — not another website that uploads your files.
Scanning is free, always
You can scan a recording of any length for free and see exactly where the dead air is, before deciding whether you want anything cut at all.
You set what counts as quiet
The threshold and the shortest gap worth cutting are both adjustable, so a soft speaker in a quiet room is not treated like a studio recording.
The recording stays local
Interviews, lessons and internal calls are exactly the material you would not upload to a web service to clean up.
How to remove silence from a video automatically
4 steps, entirely on your PC.
Install VideoForge free from mes-dev.com.
Open the recording and choose Remove silence.
Set the silence threshold and the shortest gap worth cutting, then run the scan — free at any length.
Read the list of gaps it found, then run the removal to write the tightened file.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is free here?
Scanning for silent gaps is free with no length limit — you can analyse a full hour and see every gap it finds. Writing the tightened file is free up to sixty seconds of output, and past that it needs the one-time upgrade. Worth knowing up front if your material is long-form podcast or lecture recordings.
Does the 60 seconds apply to my recording?
No, to the output. But removing silence usually shortens a file only modestly, so a long recording still produces a long output — which means the upgrade is the realistic route for anything much past a minute. The free scan is still useful on its own for finding where the gaps are.
How does it decide what counts as silence?
By an amplitude threshold you set, combined with a minimum duration, so a natural pause between sentences is not treated as dead air.
Does it cut the video as well as the audio?
Yes. The gaps are removed from the file itself, so the picture and the sound stay in sync.
Is the recording uploaded to be analysed?
No. Both the scan and the removal run on your own processor, offline.
